Congratulations Brenda Frese & UMd Women's Basketball

Just a quick note to say how proud I am of our very own University of Maryland Women's Basketball Team!  Brenda Frese's pregame speech before the Tennessee game was extraordinary, especially the part where she said, "....after this game, ....after this game....they will know our name."  It reminded me of Harbs' "What's Our Name" speech to the Ravens.  Brenda was right..."We have history here at Maryland.  We have tradition, too."  They backed up her words by beating 8-time national champion and heavily favored Tennessee. Nobody loves an underdog story like I do.

SOCHI 2014 Biggest Storylines to Watch!

What will be the big story to come out of these Olympic games?  The mystery is that we can only guess.  One of the biggest concerns has to be the safety of all the athletes with the threat of terrorist attacks.  I pray that we never again see any harm come to individuals competing at an Olympic games.  Munich in 72 was enough horror for all of us in this lifetime.

What athletes will emerge as the stars?  We typically know so few of them but you can find some of them on my blog here.

Fun Facts:

SOCHI 2014 FEMALE OLYMPIAN TO WATCH! Hannah Teter

Name: HANNAH TETER

Event: HALFPIPE SNOWBOARDING

Hannah Teter, 26, grew up in Vermont with four older brothers who all loved to compete and snowboard.  It ws just a matter of time that Hannah would follow in her brothers footsteps.

SOCHI 2014 FEMALE OLYMPIANS TO WATCH! Sarah Hendrickson

Rising Star: Sarah Hendrickson, ski jumping

Hendrickson, 19, is both a medal favorite and an underdog. Last August, the reigning world champ crashed during a training run in Germany, blowing out her right knee. But against long odds, after surgery and months of intense rehab, Hendrickson returned to the hill in mid-January and is now ready for Sochi.

SOCHI 2014 FEMALE OLYMPIANS TO WATCH!

SOCHI 2014 FEMALE OLYMPIAN TO WATCH! Emily Scott

The story of Emily Scott is one of those beautiful profiles that we have come to know and love about the Olympics.  Joe Posnanski has written her story with such emotion that it made me cry, not once, but twice!  Please take the time to read it below.

Emily Scott will be 25 years old on February 16th and will be competing in the 1500m race on her actual birthday in Sochi, Russia, going for the gold medal.

Emily will also compete in the 500m on February 9th and the 1000m on February 13.
